Supporting Justice-Involved Veterans Through Trauma-Informed Resentencing Advocacy

Cal Vet Project Inc. operates the Cal Vet Resentencing Project, helping veterans whose military service-related trauma may have affected their involvement with the criminal legal system. We work with legal partners and veteran service organizations to support fair consideration of service-related conditions under California Penal Code §1170.91.

How We Work
Identify & Verify – We work with legal partners to identify eligible veterans and gather service-related documentation.
Support & Advocate – We prepare mitigation packets and coordinate with public defenders to present a full picture of service-connected conditions.

Connect & Rebuild – We link veterans to housing, healthcare, treatment, and veteran service organizations for long-term stability.

Why It Matters
Many veterans face unique challenges that stem from their military service, including mental health conditions and trauma that can play a role in their involvement with the justice system. Through thoughtful advocacy and community collaboration, we help ensure veterans receive fair assessment and meaningful access to resentencing and rehabilitative support.
